​Because the split shell looks like a smile, they are called the "Smiling Nut" in many cultures.

​In the past, the outer hulls were used as natural dyes or for tanning leather.

​The resin from the pistachio tree was also highly valued as a medicine.

​Today, we mainly eat the nutrient-rich kernels for our health.

I originally recognized pistachios as kernel-eating berries and was surprised to learn a new fact!
