😇
Today, I want to talk about social media and loneliness,
but only from one place—
life after our 60s.
I don’t really relate to discussions about people in their 50s anymore.
That chapter feels finished for me.
And yes, I have a young grandchild.
She is lovely.
But I trust her parents.
I choose to care from a step back,
with confidence rather than control.
My true interest—
my honest curiosity—
is about people my age and beyond.
Let me share something personal.
I belong to a group of friends—
several dozen of us—
and we have known each other for decades.
We have been connected since the mid-1990s again,
largely thanks to early forms of social media.
Over the years,
we’ve had big moments and small troubles.
Something dramatic—but now it doesn't seem to be dramatic anymore.
It's just life.
Now, the group feels calm and mature.
We laugh things off easily.
We share good news and bad news.
We comfort each other without many words.
There is no need to prove anything anymore.
And somehow,
we all quietly believe
that we will keep going together
for as long as we can.
This is how social media works for us after 60.
It is not about followers.
It is not about attention.
It is about continuity.
A familiar name.
A shared memory.
A simple message that says,
“I’m still here. You are too.”
Social media is no longer a stage.
It becomes a long table,
where everyone knows each other.
In our 60s and 70s, connection changes.
We don’t want more noise.
We want meaning.
The world may grow quieter,
but that doesn’t mean it has to feel empty.
Used wisely,
social media does not increase loneliness.
For many of us,
it gently fills the spaces between days—
like water flowing,calm and steady.
And honestly,
that feels like enough.
These days, we say it easily: "It's already enough."
