What will cars be like in 20 years from now?

Autonomous Cars, Housing, and Marriage: A Korean Perspective in 2045

Today, I’d like to talk about the future of autonomous cars,
especially Tesla and Waymo,
and what they may mean for young people in Korea
20 years from now, in 2045.

In Korea today, many young people delay or give up marriage.
The most common reason is housing.

Buying or even renting a home feels impossible.
But behind this problem is something deeper—
fear of an unstable future.

Now, let’s imagine life in 2045.
By then, most cars will drive themselves.
Driving will no longer be stressful or tiring.
Time in the car will become personal time.

Both Tesla and Waymo will lead this change,
but in different ways.

Tesla will focus on the individual.
Tesla cars will drive almost anywhere.
They will also feel like small living spaces.

A single person can sleep, work, and rest inside the car.
For many young Koreans,
this means something very important:
you don’t need to own a house to start your life.

Waymo, on the other hand, will focus on cities.
Waymo will operate driverless taxis and shuttles together with local governments.

They will be safe, stable, and reliable—
like a part of public transportation.

So Tesla gives freedom,
and Waymo gives stability.

In 2045, the idea of “home” will also change.
A home will not always mean an apartment.

For many single people,
home will mean a car plus the city around it.
Cities will provide shared spaces-
showers, laundry rooms, kitchens, and charging stations.

Because of this, young people will not need
huge loans just to live together.

This can lower the pressure around marriage.
Couples can live together first
and decide slowly, without fear.

At the same time,
living alone will become easier and more comfortable.
So marriage will not become an obligation again.
But one big thing will change.
Young people will stop saying,
“I gave up on marriage because I had no choice.”
Instead, they will say,
“I chose my own way of living.”

Autonomous cars will not solve every problem in Korea.
But they can change one important thing—
the feeling of being trapped.

In the future, choice will replace pressure.
And that alone can change society.

I’d like to add a personal thought.
At the moment, Waymo is clearly ahead,
because it already runs fully driverless services in real cities.

However, personally, I support and root for Tesla.
Tesla’s vision is not just about technology.
It is about freedom, choice, and changing everyday life.

Tesla tries to give this technology to individuals,
not only to cities or governments.

“Waymo is leading today, but I personally believe Tesla is building the future I want to live in.
