You heard about Artemis II?
It was not just a rocket launch.
It was actually a rehearsal for humans going back to the Moon.

The last time people went to the Moon was in 1972, during Apollo 17.
I could remember the day when I was watching the moment on TV. That was more than 50 years ago, so this mission was very special.

But here’s something interesting—they didn’t land on the Moon yet.

Instead, they flew around the Moon and came back.
It was like a test flight before the real trip.

And the most dangerous moment was not going to space—it was coming back to Earth.

When the spacecraft re-entered the atmosphere, the temperature reached about 2,700 degrees Celsius.
You might wonder—how could it survive that heat?
The answer was a special heat shield on the Orion spacecraft.

Instead of just resisting the heat, it actually burned away on purpose.

As the outer layer slowly melted and peeled off, it carried the heat away from the spacecraft.
So in a way, the spacecraft protected the astronauts by sacrificing a part of itself.

But what made this mission even more interesting was the people on board.

First, we had Reid Wiseman, the commander.
He was 49 years old.
He once had a chance to be part of a Moon mission, but he didn’t get to go.
So for him, this was like a second chance.

Next was Christina Koch.
She was 45 years old.
She already held a record for the longest spaceflight by a woman. You could say she had already explored Earth’s orbit—and then she went further, to the Moon.

And finally, Jeremy Hansen.
He was 48 years old.
He was the first Canadian astronaut to travel to the Moon.

This showed that Moon missions were no longer just for one country—they were becoming a global effort.
