I am not really a football fan, and I usually do not enjoy watching football matches.
However, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, I became interested in a small country called Cabo Verde.
Cabo Verde is a beautiful island nation in the Atlantic Ocean, located off the west coast of Africa near Senegal.
It consists of ten volcanic islands and is famous for its beautiful beaches and warm weather.
The country has a population of only about 520,000 people.
Because it was once a Portuguese colony, Portuguese is the official language, and its culture is a unique blend of African and European traditions.
Many people were surprised when Cabo Verde drew 0–0 against Spain in the World Cup.
Spain is one of the strongest football teams in the world, so earning a point against them was a remarkable achievement for such a small nation.
This made me wonder: How can a country with only 520,000 people compete at such a high level?
There are three important reasons behind their success.
First, Cabo Verde searches for talented players all around the world.
Although the country itself has a small population, more than one million Cabo Verdeans live abroad, especially in Portugal and the United States.
The football association actively recruits talented players from these overseas communities.
Amazingly, one player was even discovered through LinkedIn.구인구직SNS사이트
Second, many members of the national team play in strong European leagues.
For example, defender Logan Costa plays for Villarreal in Spain's La Liga.
Because these players %regularly compete against world-class opponents, they were not intimidated by Spain during the World Cup.
Third, there is a touching human story behind the team.
The hero of the match against Spain was the 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha.
He made seven outstanding saves and helped his team earn a historic draw.
After the game, he became emotional during an interview because his mother could not attend the match due to expensive visa costs. (1만5천달러)
He said he played with his family in his heart.
His story touched football fans around the world.
The goalkeeper cried in an interview, and his story touched many hearts.
Soon, the US government decided to help his mother.
They cleared all visa fees and processed her visa very quickly.
Now, she can watch her son play in Miami this weekend.
In my opinion, Cabo Verde's success was not simply luck.
It was the result of global talent, hard work, and deep love for family and country.
I will continue to follow this small but inspiring nation and see how far they can go in the World Cup
