A small spark of Envy!

I heard that my nephew’s company is sending him abroad for a two-year overseas training program.
He’s always been exceptionally bright.
All the other news that came along with it just slipped past my ears,
but that one detail lodged itself deep inside me,
sending a vibration straight into my chest.
I’m jealous.
I haven’t really envied much in life,
but for the first time in a long while,
there’s something I truly, deeply envy.
Maybe it feels more real because he’s close family.
Thinking of my eldest son, a lingering sense of regret wells up,
to the point that my eyes grow moist.
He’s a smart kid too…
If only, at this pivotal moment of civilizational change,
he could have the chance to stand in a leading country
and fully absorb a solid, no-nonsense education on AGI—
what a leap that could be, in every sense.
More than anything, he’s a child who values family deeply.
So perhaps this feeling is nothing more than
a small spark of hope flickering quietly within my own heart.
